A Re-release of an older album
Originally released in March 2023, you might be asking “why write a newsletter about it now?”. As it happens, the album art for this work has recently received a facelift, hence my wanting to draw some attention to it 🙂
To provide some context for the change – there was a period during which I experimented with some of the “wonderful” new AI “art” generators to attempt to create something interesting-looking for my releases. However, it is ultimately an empty thing – collaborating with a machine. So I’ve been in the process of updating those albums / releases that have AI “art” attached to them to replace it with the work of real artists. The art for this album was provided by Dean Spencer, and I’ll be using more if his work in the near future.
In the past I’ve sometimes fallen into the trap of seeing album cover art as a bit of an annoyance. “People don’t really care about the album cover” I’d manage to convince myself once in a while. I know right… it’s actually bizarre, because I myself love collecting albums with interesting album covers!
Nevertheless, being a composer who doesn’t really do the whole music video / photo shoot / press kit thing, being able to generate images for a cover seemed useful at first. But ironically, it only served to amplify the value of being able to attach real art to one’s work. There is a personality to the work of an artist, it means something, and I’ve come to really appreciate it more deeply.
So… if you’d like to check out the album anew, head on over to Bandcamp or Spotify (links below). You can also enjoy a continuous mix of the album on YouTube.
That’s all for now 🙂 I wish you all a fantastic day further!
